George Wythe was an intelligent, courageous, and ethical Virginian who was responsible for inspiring many leaders of the American Revolution. Known for his modesty and dignity, he was so respected by his fellow signers of the Declaration of Independence that when he was absent for the signing, the delegates from Virginia left a space on the document for him to sign later so that his signature would appear first. His influence on those around him was profound.
Future Problem Solving of Virginia bestows George Wythe Awards annually to the outstanding team member in each competitive division. The tribute is unique among FPS honors because nominations must originate from a team member who recognizes the qualities Wythe possessed in one of their own teammates. Both the winner and the student submitting the nomination essay will be recognized at the State Bowl.
To nominate one of your teammates, fill out this form thoroughly describing a specific incident or pattern of behavior that benefitted your team this school year. Explain how and why the nominee's contribution was critical to the team's performance. Sign the form, ask your coach to endorse the selection, and mail the completed nomination to Wythe Award Coordinator, 3353 Glen Eden Quay, Virginia Beach, VA 23452. Applications must be postmarked no later than Saturday, March 3, 2018.
