David Dorsey
Founding Head of Seven Hills School
Richmond

The winner of this year’s Mover & Shaker Award is a school administrator, only the second ever in the history of the program. The support of a principal is generally critical to the success of Future Problem Solving, but few school programs owe their very existence to a principal.

This year’s Mover & Shaker’s commitment to FPS began before the school he had been chosen to establish had even been opened. Under his leadership, Future Problem Solving would become a major component of the school’s curriculum.

Mr. Dorsy requested information on starting a school-based program from our state office, attended our Fall Training Workshop, and coached the first team himself. Faculty members were brought in later, but they always considered their principal a co-coach. He provided training for teachers, taught classes, and even ran a yearly Future Problem Solving retreat for students.

Mr. Dorsy has attended every state bowl since his school began participating in FPS five years ago and last year accompanied his Virginia state championship team and individual to the International Conference in Michigan.

In addition to contributions to Future Problem Solving and administering his school, he has taught on the college level in such far-flung locations as Kenya and the West Indies and served as instructor and consultant in the Art of Teaching Conference at the University of Richmond.

For his extraordinary support and encouragement of Future Problem Solving, the executive board of Future Problem Solving of Virginia is pleased to recognize David Dorsey, the Founding Head of Seven Hills School in Richmond as the 2009 Mover & Shaker.
